PostHeaderIcon Fitness Tips for Getting Into Shape

The ups-and-downs of trying to become fit highlight most of our efforts. During this journey, which probably won’t ever stop, there is a lot we can learn, about what works and what doesn’t. The key thing is, don’t quit. If you get out of it, and stop for awhile, that certainly doesn’t mean you should quit forever.

Getting Into ShapeHere are some tips I’d like to share with you. Everyone will find something different that works for them, so take and use whatever works for you.

1. Find short-term rewards
We live in an instant society and it effects how we think. Shorter-term rewards are really important and can be simple things like that great feeling you get after a workout which helps you stay motivated. Try giving yourself a treat like buying something you want if you stay motivated for a week, two weeks a month. Most people quit their diet or exercise program because they’re looking for immediate results; when they don’t get the results they’re looking for they quit.

2. Take Small steps
You shouldn’t try to change your life overnight. Doing it in stages is much easier. Try starting out just walking a couple of times a week. As you get fitter, you could add some easy jogging to your routine. Eventually you’re running, several steps in your routine later. This can really apply to many things, including diet. Just take one step at a time, and you’ll get there. Small steps are a key, to both diet and exercise.

Your routine needs to be something you enjoy. If you see it as difficult, you won’t stick at it for long. You must find an exercise that you enjoy, and find healthy foods that taste good to you. If you enjoy the process it will keep you going especially if you begin seeing changes.

4. Set Goals
This works along with the small steps. These goals need to be achievable and dated. By a set time I want to be here. Then set yourself a new goal if you haven’t already and aim for it. Again it needs to be something that demands some effort from you but that is achievable. Unrealistic goals and unachievable goals are another big reason why people quit. Getting Into ShapeBut goals are what motivate most of us to get something done whether it’s at work or around the house or in our personal life.

5. Track your progress.
There are many ways you can do this. Which ever way you choose, you need to have some objective to see and compare your progress over the weeks and months. Maybe it’s the scale that helps you see your progress, though weight doesn’t tell the complete story. Other ways include measuring your waist, or taking photos of yourself each month. You can also track your performance like how long it took you last week or month to go a particular distance, or just how many miles you are walking each week total. This is important as we don’t always notice the change. Keeping track really helps us see the progress we have made.
