PostHeaderIcon Things You Should Know About Stretching Exercises

Doing warm-up or stretching exercises before you do any fitness training is very importance. It enhances your output during training and also helps prevent injuries.

Here are a number of tips about stretching that will help you when you’re working out.

Stretching Exercises 1. Increase your flexibility
Stretch both before and after workouts. Almost everyone knows that stretching before workout helps prevent injuries during exercise. But not many people realize that stretching after your workout, while your muscles are still warm, can increase flexibility.

2. Hold your stretching position
While holding your position for 20 seconds is enough for warm ups, you need to hold each position for at least 60 seconds if you want to develop your body’s flexibility.

3. Don’t stretch then immediately relax
This is appropriately termed bouncing. When stretching, you need to hold your position for several seconds, and then slowly relax. Bouncing can strain or damage some joints or muscles.

4. Make sure you warmed up all muscle groups
Some people work out a lot and are in great shape. But even they tend to neglect stretching the neck muscles. Stretching Exercises Stretching the neck muscles can be as simple as placing the palm of one’s hand against the front of the head and pushing it. Then, do the same to the sides and the back of the head.

5. Stretch regularly
This will help you increase your range of movements and your level of flexibility and strength.

6. Start your workout slowly
Start your work out slowly and increase its strength in increments instead of immediately proceeding to doing the hardest exercise or position.

7. Workout within your capabilities and not others
Increase your limits slowly. Do not try to do exercises that you are not yet capable of simple because you see other people doing them. Listen to your body. There also may be days when your body is just too tired and you may have to consider reducing your workout on those days.

Stretching Exercises 8. Learn to rest
Rest is important in between sets and stations so that your body has enough time to recover its energy. You also shouldn’t work the same muscle groups on two consecutive days. The muscles grow during the period when you rest and not when you are working out.

9. Aerobic exercises strengthen your heart
Aerobic exercises are those physical activities that need oxygen for fuel. These exercises include cardiovascular exercises such as cycling, running, swimming or skipping rope.

10. Music may help you train
Adding music to your workout by using a lightweight mp3 player or iPod can help you exercise for longer periods and increase your workout intensity. Just make sure you use a headset so you don’t disturb the other people.

Stretching prevents injuries and increases one’s limits, but it is also is good for a tired body and for a stressed out mind and spirit.
